Meet Randy Pausch...
Have you heard of Professor Randy Pausch? In my opinion he is one of the most yogic "non-yogis" on the planet at this time. Diagnosed with fatal pancreatic cancer he has been spreading his "Last Lecture" - basically a dynamic and inspiring approach to living that we can all learn a great deal from. I can't do it justice in describing it - you just have to watch. It's a perfect pick-me-up for a cleanse week to remind us all of the delicate, beautiful and wonderous gift of life. Yes, he is unbelievable. A living Buddha! I think he was on Diane Sawyer's show Primetime last night, or so someone texted me. The interview might be online?
Yes, the interview was amazing - which is what reminded me of bringing him up. I haven't fund t online yet, but I'm not a very good web-searcher.

I take credit for cluing Skye in to Randy :-) Of course, she takes credit for all the amazing meal prep at our home this week, so I suppose we're even.
I wish the whole Primetime episode was online, I can only find clips from it. There are parts I remember that I don't think are in the clips. One in particular where he's talking about his Head Fake Approach to teaching I can really relate to. He says something to the effect of you can't change people by telling them how to live, you can only tell stories and let them figure out the lesson. From what Skye has explained to me about craniosacral therapy, I understand that manipulating various parts of the cranio-sacral system requires very subtle manipulation. Direct, forceful manipulation will be resisted. I know my personality is just like this. I am highly resistant to direct attempts to change me--even my own direct attempts to change elements of myself. I knew full well at the beginning of the cleanse that there was no reason for me to set some clear goal or intention for the week ("I want to be more patient, and I want to achieve it by the end of the week"). I simply approach it as an experience to be absorbed with results that will only reveal themselves in time.
I suspect I'm not alone in this. In fact, I think the first great spiritual teacher I was introduced to as a child operated on this idea of "Head Faking" people into a life lesson. Jesus remains famous today for the many insightful stories he told. Other great teachers throughout the world and history have often employed the same technique. I find that if I want to change something, it does me far more good to hear stories and see examples of the principle I'm working on in action than to simply tell myself what I need to improve. And when it comes to examples of some of the things I would like to embody in action, I must agree with Gina that Randy Pausch is a living Buddha!
