How Are They Now?
Just as any Unsolved Mysteries show needs it's "Update" and any One Hit Wonders show needs it's "Where Are They Now?", our cleanse needs a "How Are They Now? Update".
How have days 1 and 2 OFF the cleanse been ?
For my part, I successfully averted a potential fresh baked bread overdose on Saturday night and on Sunday was then subjected to a meal at Lidia's, of all places. And if you didn't know, they make their own pasta and breads. Oy vey. I made it though!
Last night I started work on a new moyoga blog site that will be a repository for vegetarian and vegan recipes. I'm hoping this will become a resource for some of you that are new to cooking for yourselves. I also hope you'll all contribute when you've made something delicious! More on this new site when it's ready for launch!
Love you all,
Gina

I just want to say how amazed I was to put out a tiny little half bag of trash this morning ....I had some extra compost material this week, but definately less trash ....
I'm enjoying a nice 'cold' beer .... Pilsner mmmmm, coffee I can live without, but now and then a beer seems to me like one of lifes great pleasures. Till the next cleanse, Cheers!
And thanks again to everyone it was great ... I'll definately be joining in on the recipe blog.

Great idea. I'm always looking for (and finding) great veggie recipes. Plus, you know, I'm kind of going through blog withdrawal so it will be good to keep in touch with the kula.
I hope you are all doing well - I've been thinking of you often. I let myself indulge a little bit (cinnamon roll), but have to say that the "forbidden" foods weren't quite as tasty as I'd remembered. This is great news.
I'm with you, Kirsten, on the trash thing. The cleanse inspired my husband and I to build a compost bin in the backyard and I'm strangely delighted by it.
Namaste, everyone!
Hmmm...I haven't been as successful as Gina in avoiding non-cleanse foods since Saturday, then again, I didn't have a strong intention to do so. While most of my body loves eating the cleanse diet, my colon does not. I have severe chronic ulcerative colitis that is, much to my dismay, aggravated by high fiber and fructose (among other things - dairy, stress....) I do my best to stay away from raw fruit and veggies, but that's really challenging, and I definitely felt more energy during the cleanse when I was indulging in more of them, but now I am paying the price. I didn't talk much about this during the cleanse because I just don't like to make a big deal out of it anymore, but the 3AM toilet marathons are putting me over the edge. I was already in a flare prior to the cleanse and now it's intensified. I knew this was a risk and I willingly partook. No blame to the cleanse, I just need to give a little shout out that I'm struggling right now. Losing too much blood to be able to function at me best. I have used a wide variety of therapies to manage this condition, but none seem to be working at the moment. If anyone has any experience with this, I'm all ears. Thanks, friends.
PS - I HAVE been able to stay off coffee so far, which is HUGE! for me!!! (Yay for me! ;-) Once cup of organic loose-leaf green tea seems to be doing the trick, I definitely notice a change in my energy flow without the black stuff.
No: caffeine, red meat or white flour
Yes: increased energy,alertness and awareness......Hurray
Looking forward to sharing recipes :)
That which is sacred in me honors that which is sacred in you.
I've stayed off coffee, too! I've had a few cups of decaf here and there and lots of green tea... I've noticed fewer mood swings and I actually find it much easier to concentrate. So I don't have to be manic to be creative, after all... I'm sorry about your condition, Skya, I too have been cursed with an absurdly sensitive digestive tract that acts in direct relationship with the oscillations of my brain and emotions, though not to the apparently very painful extent of yours. I've remained on a phase 2 diet, which is what my eating habits most closely resembled before the cleanse anyway... I did try some candy when I was at my parent's house the other day, more out of curiosity than craving, and it tasted very boring. But I had some red wine Sunday night and I can't say that was quite as boring...
I've stayed on phase 3 with some phase 2 days mixed in. I've been allowing myself to try some forbiddens, but only in small doses. I drink less than one cup of coffee per day with some black tea--not much!--as well. It's almost as if my body is rejecting caffeine, which is weird for me. I feel so much better (if sometimes sleepy in the mornings) without it.
Skya, I am sorry to hear of your colitis and its post cleanse flare-up. I hope it clears soon and that you are able to find a way to heal. Rice water seems to work at containing spastic output. It is water run through a pot of cooked white rice. It sounds a lot like the watery rice substance Gina was talking about early in the cleanse. It should be mild enough to try without worry.
To all of you former coffee addicts out there, congrats! It's great to hear about all of the new mindful experiences!
Was our group picture ever posted?

Skya & Ashley, you might consider making an apointment with Lisa Everette a the KC Holistic Center / O'Brien Pharmacy. She has helped 2 people I know that used to have very difficult ulcer and severe acid reflux. She reviewed their blood work, got them off their perscriptive medicines, & created a fietary routine that each could follow to aid the rest of the recommended change.
They went through several months of discomfort making the changes, yet both of them have willingly & easily stayed with the changes. They have lower medical expenses and happier internal workings!
She is very well versed in Ayuvedic, pharmachology & nutrition for the past 20 years.
Perhaps this is a resource to explore.
Love,
Linda
Thank you to all who have given me their recommendations. I am already following through on some of them and have the intention to follow up on others when I return from "my other life" (leading biking and hiking trips in Europe) in the fall. I have been feeling better lately and am working to establish routines that will keep me strong enough to do my job this summer. 10 minutes of morning pranayama is one of my daily goals. Thank you all very much for your concern and advice! I look forward to seeing you all again when I return! (I leave on the 30th). Namaste -
Skye
