Cleansing this Fall

Hello sweet ones,

Thanks to all of you who supported our Global Mala event. As usual, you were exceptional abassadors of yoga and I was extremely proud and grateful!

I've had some questions about a Fall Cleanse and I wanted to let you know that I won't be hosting a Fall Cleanse at the studios this season. However, I have total confidence in your ability to embark on your own Fall Cleanse using what you've learned from your past cleanse(s), 2 studios class schedules, your journal and this blogsite to create a powerful experience. In many ways, this is the evolution of the practice. In a less managed environment we are now given the opportunity to see how much of this process has penetrated and where we need to focus on growth and balance.

If you need help - ask for it here! Maybe there's someone who will syncopate with you on a practice schedule for 6 days? Or maybe there's someone who will work with you on creating and sticking to a cleanse menu for the week? Or maybe it's just helpful to announce that you're cleansing, as a way of making if official so we can cheer you on and be there if you need us?

I'm also offering a workshop downtown on Oct. 26 that you might incorporate into any cleanse plans. Dr. Will Tuttle, author of the book "The World Peace Diet" is coming to give a talk about how to eat more mindfully and harmoniously with all beings on the planet. Will's book is provocative and transformative and is the first book to make explicit the invisible connections between our culture, our food, and the source of our broad range of problems—and the way to a positive transformation in our individual and collective lives.

Just for your reference, the products I normally order for us are also available for individual purpose at Nature's Pantry. You can find the Tri-Cleanse Complete Internal Cleanser with Triphala and the Dandelion Root tincture in the herbal supplement section of the store. The pro-biotic is available in the refrigerated section of the herbal supplement section of the store. I am sure these products are also available at Whole Foods and Wild Oats, just ask someone in their herbs and vitamins dept. exactly where they are.

I look forward to all the unfolds...

Namaste,
Gina

I have to be honest. As much as I went on and on about the mala yesterday, I am stoked about Day 1. A Sea of Oms done by (hopefully) over a 100 people (do I hear 200 or 300)? That sounds so incredibly cool. You can feel the energy from a dozen or so people, I wonder how that would feel multiplied by 5 or 10...20?
An evening of projecting peace? There are worse ways to spend a Friday night. We get enough negative waves from our media and everyday interactions from those less enlightened (murder, scandals and just basic intolerance for other human beings - sheesh!). I'm ready for some positive waves on grand scale.
Okay, I know, attachment = dukkha. But I can't help looking forward to this. My apologies if I sound like a cheerleader or a commercial, but I'm just really enthused about this.

Be safe!

"What if" and other useless questions

Hi all,

I wanted to echo Allison's response about completing "The Great 108". Many of us, when faced with a challenge begin the challenge with a preconceived notion of how it will feel and how it will turn out. "I'll never do that many.", "What if it hurts?", "What if I start and can't make it through all 108?", "If I try it, I'd better succeed." Our society is a results driven society. Turn on CNBC or listen to any corporate meeting and it is all about reaching some kind of goal. Don't get me wrong, having a goal is good as long as it helps you do your best. Goals become toxic when they cause fear and suffering (dukkha). "What will everyone think if I do/don't succeed?" "What will I think of myself if I do/don't succeed?" Note the "if" pertaining to the future which has not happened. Besides, once it is over, it is in the past. You made the effort.

I participated in my first mala as a physical challenge. I wasn't open to the multi-faceted experience. It was all about me. The way I approach malas now versus my first is this: I see the mala not as something to succeed or fail at, but as an offering to myself and others around me. I contribute by being there. Whether I "succeed" by doing all 108 sun salutations is immaterial (child's pose can be your best friend). For me, the "success" comes with the participation.

Lastly, I will say this, if you do not want to, that's fine, I'm good with that. But if you are not doing it for fear of the how you will do, throw that out with yesterdays garbage and come on out. I truly hope to see you there. If you come, you'll see me there. I'll be easy to recognize. I'll have a smile on my face before, during and afterward (albeit a little sweatier afterward). Open yourself up to it. You won't regret it.

--The only thing we have is the present. The past cannot be undone and the future has not happened.

Peace and big smiles!

John
