What happens all too often...
I rushed home from a fabulous cleanse meeting this morning, changed clothes, and left for work. Initially, I thought I was pressed for time, but five miles down the road, I realize I will get to work with plenty of time to spare. Then I come to a very long light which changes red as I get to it. I feel my pulse quicken and a sense of tension. Why? I had already determined that I had plenty of time. Yet, at first, I could not see it as an opportunity to breathe in the joy of the morning or at least a few minutes of peace and tranquility. A green light would have just meant getting to work sooner but no such precious opportunity. Why do we manufacture our own tensions? Steve

I love this post! I think it is so revealing of the way that habit drives us. You knew in your head that you didn't have to rush, but rushing is the established pattern when you and the car are going to work -- it's like autopilot. The really scary thing is if you think of how this works throughout our entire daily lives. For instance, multi-tasking is something that many of us do on a fairly regular basis because it is "necessary." The problem is that we become so accustomed to multi-tasking that we know no other way of being...so we end up multi-tasking in our relationships (typing on the computer while our friend tells us her troubles on the phone, watching television during dinner, and on and on and on). The mind is already a busy, busy place, and we have only added to that by developing such habits. We shouldn't be surprised, then, that when we recognize such habits it takes a while to change them.
Thanks for sharing this experience -- I bet lots of us have had it this week.
My favorite line is the last one - a question we should ask ourselves frequently:
Am I manufacturing this tension or is it Truth?
Nice Steve!
