On Creating Our Own Obstacles
I found this quotation recorded in my journal. It seemed appropriate given the conversation today about creating our own obstacles.
"There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them." Anthony de Mello
Apparently, de Mello never met the cleanse kula. We are questioning the false beliefs, the widespread, commonly held beliefs that hold us in chains, that bind our hearts. As we open up to each other and to this process, these beliefs are revealed for what they truly are...creations of our own minds, often born out of our struggles and suffering. But they only have power over us if we give it to them. They aren't the truth. They aren't musts, have-tos. They are optional.
We now know we can opt out. We can choose to think differently and truly change our worlds.
"With our thoughts we make the world..." The Buddha

i like that quote. i put it in my journal. :)
I think what's interesting is that the commonly held false beliefs usually don't feel "false" until you shake things up a bit, really look at them and begin to ask ourselves, "why do I think that really? or why do I do that?" So much of what we think and do is just there, without conscious intention. So this cleanse and yoga are paths to living with intention and questioning everything. Big work, that's why knowing you're on a team helps so much :)
