Because Someone Asked...

This may seem like a surprising post for those of you experiencing, how to say this, big results from the colon cleanser...But, there are some who aren't.

So, some tips. Increase fruit consumption -- apples are great or you can use some fresh apple juice, also prunes or prune juice (all of this of course natural with no added sugars). In the vegetable category, you could try some cauliflower (I call it a scrubber for the intestines).

You could also massage the abdomen in a circular motion beginning at the lower right side and massaging up toward the lower ribs, across the belly to the left and down the left side. It's best to do this lying on your back after drawing the knees into the chest a few times. Massaging up the legs is also considered good for this, particularly from the kneecaps to the tops of the thighs.

Yoga postures recommended by BKS Iyengar to deal with this condition include sirsasana (headstand), sarvangasana (shoulder stand), all standing postures, uttanasana (standing forward bend), paschimottanasana (seated forward bend), jatara parivartanasana (the ab work where we lift the legs to 90 degrees and then drop them to the right and to the left while keeping the opposite shoulder and the lumbar spine anchored to the floor -- East loved this on Tuesday!). Iyengar also suggests Nadi Sodhana pranayama -- alternate nostril breathing.

Hope this helps.

During my first cleanse I was one of those people who did not experience "big results" for the first few days. A friend of mine suggested I eat and apple (or more) each day, with the skins on. Apparently there exists a cleanse where eating apples replaces the colon cleanser. This time around, I made sure I ate an apple each day in the beginning – and there were no problems.
