VOTE (and practice yoga for free!)
Namaste Kansas Siddhi Yogis!
Whenever Election Day falls on a particularly busy Tuesday and I start to question whether I will even have time to stop off at the polls and vote, I think of Tibet, I think of Cuba and I think of the suffragettes in this country and all they endured and fought for to do that which we sometimes feel too busy, too apathetic or too inconvenienced to do, vote.
Rather than focus on how little time I have, I focus on the incredible right I have to vote. I think of all the people on this planet who would love the opportunity to have some say in who is making decisions about their lives and the laws of the state and/or country they live in. In the eyes of many peoples worldwide, this country represents freedom, something many have only dreamt of. And, admittedly, we sometimes feel "too busy" to even exercise an invaluable freedom that is only wished for by so many.
The more apathetic we get, the more "asleep" we get in our lives. As you know, yoga is a process of awakening. As part of this awakening, let's offer our honor and respect for our rights and for those who made attaining those rights their great purpose in life.
Please vote tomorrow - sit down now and learn where your polling station is. Decide now when exactly you will stop by to cast your honorable vote. Bring in your "I Voted" sticker to the studio tomorrow night and practice for free!
Love and freedom to you all,
Gina

My two cents...
We recently watched a Noah Chomsky DVD (Manufactured Consent) discussing the impact the media has on our thinking. Part of his premise is that the media distracts us from what is really important (and he argues they do it on purpose).
Studies have shown that negative campaigns significantly suppress the vote. As we have all surely noted, we are in the midst of some pretty negative campaigns. Undoubtedly the candidates and organizations that are putting the negative ads on TV know about the research showing that it supresses the vote.
Is there any practical difference between being prohibited from voting and being lulled into non-participation?
Take a moment to reflect on what it means to have the right to vote and what is important enough to keep you from exercising that right.
BTW, its Noam Chomsky...not Noah.
I have to agree with Mr. Chomsky. After watching ads denouncing opponents from various races in different states, one is left to ponder, "Which of the two (or three) candidates is the least slimey? Do you vote for a crook, a coward, a slimeball or a radical? That's what they would have you believe the other is. I realize that this has been a tradition in our country since the 19th century, but isn't it time to come out of the mud? If you believe in evolution, we crawled out of the mud, why can't the politicians?
All we can do is our best and get out and VOTE!
I did vote! Wish I could join the class tonight. It's watch week at my daughters dance. I was thinking I would love to bring my daughter to one of our classes. She could experience watch week. I think she would be inspired.
What a great way to do your part to get people out to vote.
