Challenging Relatives
Is anyone else finding that others in their life are not supporting the cleanse?
The day after I told my mom about the cleanse, she baked me a coffee cake. Other friends and family members have brought me cake, doughnuts, biscuits, and so forth in the past few days.
They mean well, I'm sure. To them, this whole idea is a little nuts, and they want to make sure I don't get sick from it.
Oh, now that I think of it, that's really funny. . . . Maybe a sense of humor is the only way to handle this. But if any of you have had this experience and have a better way of responding--without getting derailed and without offending loved ones--I'd love to hear about it.
Of all of Gina's terrific ideas, this blog may be one of the best.
Love and support to you all

Hi Jerri,
As always, thank you for your kind words. I am thrilled you're finding the blogsite useful and a nice way for us to connect with one another.
I found your post humorous too, I think humor is a healthy way to approach your role of "pioneer" amongst your family and friends.
This immersion and cleanse offers us all the opportunity to be teachers. They may not understand and may not be appropriately supportive of your efforts now but we must take refuge in the fact that just sharing what we're doing plants a seed in their consciousness that wasn't there before. And once something enters our consciousness, we can't help but notice things related to it. It happens all the time, once we learn about something, all of a sudden it's everywhere! So our family and friends may not water that seed now but rest assured you've planted it and you will actually water the seed by continuing to teach them by example. It's impossible to contain what you gain from your yoga practice and associated practice, like this cleanse. They will notice that you seem different, feel different, look different. And these changes may be inspiring enough to initiate small changes in their lives too!
If my family were baking me goodies in "support" of my cleanse, I would graciously thank them for thinking of me and then explain how during this time I am trying to only ingest natural, easily digestible foods so that my body can really get rid of waste that may create disease in the body or is currently contributing to disease. I'd explain tat we're not imposing limits on the amount of food we eat during the cleanse, just the types of foods we eat. Things that the body can process really easily and things that facilitate elimination of waste and toxins. That should make sense, no? A simple explanation is good and our best teaching is done by example.
Then I'd take their lovingly baked goodies to a local convalescent home or adult care facility and share the love that was baked right in. If it makes sense, invite the baker along so they can see the effects of sharing their loving gesture.
Thanks for sharing,
Gina
I am right there with you Jerri, my co workers want to know "how much weight I've lost" It is so hard to explain to them that it isn't about losing weight but cleansing the body of all the horrible toxins we ingest every day. I think that people are just looking for a "quick fix" and if I lost a ton of weight they would join on the band wagon immediately.
One of the reasons I wanted to join in the cleanse is Gina talks often regarding shopping on the outer edges of the grocery store and I always thought how hard that would be. Having this guided tour of exactly how to do that every day is so exciting to me! Thanks to Gina for doing this for all of us and I plan on continuing as best I can after the cleanse.
